The Chimp and the Lobster
Chimp was relaxing under the banana tree by the pond, chomping
away on another banana, tossing the left over peel onto a pile. Many happy hours he spent there, sipping from the cool
pure water, chatting with his friend Lobster who lived in the pond.
"Lobster, will you bring me another tasty snack from the pond?" asked Chimp. "Certainly, little Chimp, it is always a
pleasure to bring you something nice to eat!"
Lobster dove down and scooped up some fresh clams and oysters, then swam over and pulled them up onto the shore by his
friend. Chimp ate the morsels cheerfully, and tossed the shells into the pile.
As time went on, Chimp's pile of banana peels and sea shells became very large. The pile started to fall over into the
pond, and it began to smell badly. When Chimp came down to quench his thirst, the water was no longer sweet, and he
felt poorly after drinking. The banana tree which also relied on the pond water began to droop, and no longer produced
fruit for Chimp to eat. Lobster began to get sick, and the clams and oysters in the pond disappeared altogether.
Lobster asked "Chimp my little friend, can you not see the damage that you are doing?"
Do not destroy that which sustains you...
